An Awesome Pre-Announcement Announcement

content strategy hub
For those of you who noticed, I would normally have had a post yesterday…but I didn’t. I was too busy being busy. Busy with what you ask? Busy with setting up a new project. I’m excited about this one, and you should be too.

Here’s what it is, what I’ve done, and why I’ve done it (some links in this post are affiliate links – and, of course, these are products that I use myself).

What Is It?

I was sitting around brainstorming – thinking about where this business of mine is going to go if I’m going to stay in business. What what was I going to do to position myself to create more income and help more people (because if you’re not helping people, your income dries out fairly quickly).

And then it came to me. Surprisingly quickly: content strategy.

Why Content Strategy?

Content strategy is something I’ve been really interested in for the longest time. I’m a fan of games with strategy, I like strategizing, I just like strategy in general. It’s something that every business that has an online presence really needs to have.

I have been observing, writing down, and testing what works on this website for a long time…and now it’s time to share it with the world.

Steps I’ve Taken

I decided to work backwards on this one. I started with the “product.”  Eventually (in the not so distant future) I will be putting out a content strategy product to send people starting an online business in the right direction.

1. I spent a full day creating a mind map with FreeMind to see if I had a whole product in me. And I certainly had at least one within the map I created. So, convinced that the eventuality of the new project was an actual product, I decided to proceed.

2. I brainstormed several ways that I could promote this to-be product. Like I said, I went completely backwards on this one with the end in mind. And staying true to the topic of the new project…I created a strategy first.

3. I used Market Samurai to check that this was a profitable topic through the keyword research module. I also used Market Samurai to run a test on the competition…and ignored it.

To be honest, I don’t care about competition with this one. If there’s competition, there’s money to be made. If there’s competition, there’s potential partners. And I’m not one to shy away from competition by nature.

Strategic Content Launch Pad

4. I set up a domain through Host Monster (my host of choice) that will signal exactly what the site is about: ContentStrategyHub.com. The keywords are also within the domain, giving me some nice SEO value.

5. I then spent the last couple of days building the “skeleton” of my new site with Headway Theme. It’s about 90% done so I can start creating content now.

Why a New Site

I decided to launch a new site for several reasons.

1. It’ll have more focus. This site will be all about strategy and will target readers who are interested in implementing strategies that work. Judging by some of the responses I received on my last post, readers enjoy my lack of focus here on Reality Burst. Content Strategy Hub will be different.

2. It’s a way to promote the product. People visiting and signing up for the information I am providing on the new site will obviously be interested in the topic…and hopefully interested in the product when it is finished.

3. Keeping it separate from Reality Burst allows me the opportunity to share how I am building a completely new business from scratch here on this blog.

What Next?

I will still be writing rants about airlines and the like here on Reality Burst. But I will also be sharing my experience with building this new business.

In the mean time you can sign up for updates here, or go to ContentStrategyHub.com and sign up for updates there, and I will announce the official launch of the site soon. See you there!

Your Two Cents:

Are you interested in content strategy?
Do you implement content strategy?
Would you be interested in learning more about strategy?
Would you be interested in a content strategy product?

Content strategy is interesting because when I first started my blog, I was writing just to write, like a diary. Then I decided that I really liked connecting with people and knew that I needed a central idea to my blog.
Reading and learning about content strategy would help me and a lot of people (I think) to come up with more topics related to their blog OR help people find one focus in their blogs.
    Thanks!

Hey Julia, thanks for stopping by. I’m in the same boat. Even with this blog I sort of write just to write and don’t have too much focus. There are common themes throughout but that doesn’t get very far. I hope I can turn this into something that can help a lot of people (and myself :) ).

Hey Eugene, content is Elvis, and it sounds like a great topic for a blog!

You know, you could do it together with the million dollar project? If you’re interested check it out here: http://thinktraffic.net/the-million-dollar-blog-project I’m following it and making changes to my blog as it goes along, but it’s perfect for new blogs, mate.

      “Content is Elvis”… love it!

I actually just registered for it today. Figured it would be some good extra exposure and keep me motivated and in line.

    Hi Eugene!

Nice topic and very well said. I like the mind map that you share. Can I use it when I have a seminar?

    • Eugene
      September 22, 2011 | 10:23 am

Thanks. Use the actual mind map I created? That depends on what you plan on using it for I suppose. There’s a reason you can’t really read what’s on there :)

    Eugene,

Love the idea. being a big planner myself, I love the idea of having a content strategy. And a pre announcment announcement is a good way to drum up a little excitement (hence a good content strategy in and of itself)

I am looking forward to seeing some of your ideas in the new (more highly focused) site.

    Good luck man!

Thanks Steve. I figured I’ve done too much on the fly, and it’s time to sit down and plan out some things to actually analyze (I know you’ll appreciate that one) the results.

Thanks Sandip. I think it’s something that a lot of people don’t really put enough weight on. Hopefully this project works out and helps a lot of people int he process.

    Hey Eugene,

That’s awesome. I can’t wait to see your product when it’s finished. I’m a man of strategy. And I have been thinking about launching my own product for a while, I ended up writing a novel instead (and that’s sort of my own product, but in a completely different market).

I have tried using mind maps, but so far, I’m more successful with using Evernote and lots of notebooks :)

I use Evernote sparingly as well. This was really the first time that I went all out with a MindMap…I’m usually pretty unorganized. I guess that means I’m actually taking this seriously :) .
