Breaking News: Selfish Blogger Offering Free Help

Help Button

Up until now I’ve been pretty selfish, haven’t I? I’ve written about whatever I feel like writing, whenever I feel like writing it. Well that’s about to change to a small degree…

I want to get to know you, my reader. Seriously, what’s the point of this blog if it’s not being read. And what’s the point of this blog being read, if it’s not helping anyone.

But for me to help you, I need you to help me first. Is that me being selfish again?

For me to be able to help, I need a little direction about what to help with. To point me in the right direction, I created this survey. Whether you are a returning/regular visitor, or it is your first time here, please help me out and complete the survey…otherwise I’m just going to continue being selfish :) .

Strategic Content Launch Pad

    Smart move here, Eugene!

Active listening is key in what we do. I think you may find Twylah and hashtags.org useful if you haven’t check them out yet. It can help you see what’s hot and what’s not right now…

…And the SEO value here is quite “sexy” too! =oD

It is funny isn’t it. When we start out as bloggers it is a hobby. At least for me, I never really stopped to consider that people would actually read my blog, I wrote for my personal pleasure. I guess you feel the same.

Maybe you should not be asking your readers what you should write. Maybe people come here to read what you are currently interested in, not what they are interested in?

That’s a really interesting take Jon. And it might actually be a really good point. It kind of goes against the “standard logic” of the blogosphere – which is why I like it and think you’re probably right :) .

I feel like bloggers are always looking for more info on specific/targeted niches to write about, as well as case studies about what works and what doesn’t.

    • Eugene
      September 19, 2011 | 9:56 am

That’s true. I’d be happy to keep writing about whatever I want, but I figured if someone has something specific they’d want me to talk about there’s no reason why I shouldn’t.

Must be the season, because everywhere I go bloggers are gazing into their navels.

I’m with Jon. If I want to find info on a specific subject, I use a search engine. People read blogs to get an informed and passionate take on some subject. I don’t think the subject is as important as the drive and motivation of the blogger.

I really like that outlook Charleen. I’ll continue my rants about airlines and such :) .

Giving a survey is nice and all, but you shouldn’t stray too much from the path. You won’t last long if you only write for other people, you need to actually get some satisfaction for yourself out of this. I enjoyed you being selfish.

Haha, thank you Richard. I shall continue being selfish then :) .

Thank you for sharing your knowledge about blogging. I just stumbled upon your blog and read your post about how to blog comment more effectively. I just started commenting on blogs and was having a hard time keeping track of which ones I enjoyed/commented on etc. I was adding them to my favorites but your Google Reader method is a lot more efficient (plus I can just log into my Google account and access them from any computer — even my Ipad which is super convenient). Anyway, I added your blog and will be visiting quite often. I find your posts easy to read (even though they are quite long … lol) and the topics quite interesting and helpful. Thabks again!

It’s a good thing that you’re offering help to others. I know for sure that there are lots of people who are in need of some expert advice for blogging, especially those who are new in blogging.
